Francesca’s love for gold jewellery began in childhood, when her grandmother used to take her to see the heirloom pieces passed down through generations of women in their Sicilian family. In Sicily, gold jewellery has always been more than just an adornment for women. It is a symbol of strength, independence, and legacy. As a young girl, Francesca learned that these pieces were not only beautiful but carried an important cultural significance: they were passed on to ensure that the women of the family had a form of economic independence, a portable wealth that could protect them and their children in times of need. This profound connection to gold as both an art form and a safeguard for women’s autonomy inspired Francesca to become an ethical goldsmith, dedicating herself to creating jewellery that honours that legacy of her origins while embracing sustainable, ethical practices in Cornwall, where she now lives and works.
